The Durango/La Plata County Airport is expected
to undergo significant changes in the coming years.
Strategies to facilitate development could include
expansion of the planning area, code requirements
for aviation easements, and establishment of requirements
for special construction on lands adjacent to the
airport.

southeast of the City of Durango. Access to the airport
is from US Hwy. 172. It is a publicly owned commercial

Freight
Durango and the greater Four Corners area is served
by numerous motor carriers and delivery services from
all geographic areas in the United States. Durango
is located away from the major metro areas of the
southwest, however, due to the area's excellent air
and trucking connections, distances to major markets
create only minor problems for local businessmen.
Major markets in the southwest and west coast areas
enjoy transportation from Durango that is closer and
more convenient than from Denver. Winter weather in
Durango is also more amenable to transportation to
those areas.
