The La Plata County area is blessed with a vocational
and technical school. The main campus of San Juan
Basin Technical School is located some 40 miles west
of Durango, but the school offers evening classes
in Durango, Bayfield, Pagosa Springs and other surrounding
communities.
San Juan Vo-Tech is fully accredited by the North
Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the
Colorado State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational
Education. The Licensed Practical Nursing Program
is also accredited by the Colorado State Board of
Nursing.
The school offers a variety of short term evening
courses on a demand basis. Each Spring, it sponsors
the second largest Emergency Medical Symposium in
the United States and each Fall it sponsors a Fire
Academy. Both are held at Tamarron Resort. Customized
training for business and industry is also one of
